From idea to experiment to use case

Innovation Lab

Ideas tested quickly, and scaled when they prove out.

The Innovation Lab is GTech’s managed experimentation office. It gathers ideas from staff, partners and data, ranks them by value and feasibility, runs short experiments with clear success measures, and hands the winners to delivery as use cases ready to scale.

Highlights

  • One pipeline of ideas, ranked by value and feasibility
  • Short experiments with success measures agreed upfront
  • Proven ideas handed over as use cases ready to scale

01The challenge

Plenty of ideas; few reach production.

Organizations run hackathons, idea campaigns and proofs of concept, and many promising ideas follow. Most stop there: no one decides which to test, experiments run without measures of success, and the ones that work have no route into delivery.

Innovation becomes an event rather than a way of working, and leadership cannot tell what it returned. A lab works when experimentation is managed: a pipeline, clear measures and a handover that turns proof into practice.

02What the lab does

Ideas, experiments and scale in one lab.

The Innovation Lab manages experimentation from the first idea to the first live use case.

  • Idea pipeline

Ideas from staff, partners, customers and data in one pipeline, each with a sponsor and a problem it solves.

  • Ranking

Opportunities scored for value, feasibility and fit with the strategy, so effort goes to the best few.

  • Experiments

Short, time-boxed tests with the hypothesis, the success measure and the decision date agreed in advance.

  • Scale-up

Proven ideas handed to delivery as use cases with a case for investment and an owner.

  • Partners and ecosystem

Startups, vendors and universities brought in where they can test faster than building alone.

03How it starts

Stood up with your team, then run by it.

  1. Frame

Agree the challenges the lab will work on, its sponsors and how ideas will be judged.

  2. Fill the pipeline

Gather and rank ideas, and choose the first experiments.

  3. Experiment

Run the first wave of experiments and decide on each against its success measure.

  4. Transfer

GTech runs the lab alongside your team until your people run it on their own.

04Why it pays

Innovation measured like any other investment.

  • Effort on the best ideas

Ranking and quick decisions stop resources spreading across too many pilots.

  • Fail small, learn fast

Time-boxed experiments end weak ideas early and cheaply.

  • A route to production

Winners leave the lab with an owner, a case and a place in the delivery plan.

  • Connected to the command center

The idea pipeline, experiments and ranked opportunities flow into ECC 360 and HECC 360, and questions leaders ask that the data cannot yet answer become candidate ideas.

05Editions

Built for the way you innovate.

The lab fits the challenges and the partners of its sector.

  • Government and public sector

For ministries and authorities innovating in public services, with beneficiaries and partners in the loop.

  • Enterprise and groups

For groups and companies looking for new products, services and ways of working across business units.
